ARTIST STATEMENT

The series is inspired by Sigmund Freud’s concept of the Uncanny or, in German, “Das Unheimliche.” The moment where something is familiar, yet strange at the same time. It causes a weird feeling of being uncomfortably odd or uncomfortably familiar. The scenes (miniatures) were created and photograph with mainly clay, toothpick, plastic, and paper to represent that cognitive dissonance which, for me, happens with the human absence at home. Two models and two photographs of the same/similar situation were created to reflect the psyche of the human being.
