ARTIST STATEMENT

My work is inspired by world news, social media and my New York surroundings. I am interested in these sources because they are what I come into contact with on a daily basis. These sources expose me to a lot of horrible things which cause me distress and that distress feeds into my work.

I currently am creating pieces from a domestic space, my apartment, and so it is fitting that my mediums, needle, thread and fabric, are also traditionally domestic. My workspace allows me to create in a separate space from the rest of the world, and digest the horrors that occur and use art as a way to understand them. The imagery I choose portrays loose narratives that are charged while remaining ambiguous. I view my pieces as a reflection of my personal fears and anxieties; however, my work also becomes a discussion of larger topics including war and violence.
